October 8, 2020 — The City of Wilsonville’s draft Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy is now available for public comment, through Tuesday, Oct. 20, at ci.Wilsonville.or.us/ArtsCultureStrategy. The City Council is scheduled to discuss the draft strategy during its Oct. 19 work session, which begins at 5 pm.
The largest advisory committee in the City’s history, the 42-member Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy (ACHS) Task Force, met online three times this summer to provide input on findings and recommendations that form the basis of the ACHS. City Councilors Charlotte Lehan and Joann Linville served as Council liaisons to the City Manager-appointed Task Force, which included area residents active or interested in advancing arts, culture and heritage activities, events and programs.

October 7, 2020 — Charged with developing the annual Fall Harvest Festival during a unique, challenging year for holiday celebrations, the Parks and Recreation Department is curating a two-week-long celebration packed with family-friendly fall activities.
A free pumpkin giveaway, costumed events, and virtual photo contests (with great prizes!) are just a few of the many activities on the modified Harvest Festival schedule.
Because of public health and safety measures that restrict group activities to stem the transmission of COVID-19, the annual Festival and 5k run at Stein-Boozier Barn are not taking place this year. Other family fall traditions, including trick-or-treating, are considered high risk by state and federal public health officials.

October 6, 2020 — At the October 5, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council adopted a resolution to select a preferred bridge concept, plaza type and priority elements to be included in the preliminary design of the I-5 Pedestrian Bridge and Gateway Plaza.
The Council’s action affirms the recommendations of the City’s Planning Commission, which was informed by input from three community open houses and a public survey of nearly 300 community stakeholders. The decision enables project managers to begin preliminary work on a preferred design that features an iconic “tied arch” bridge.

Wilsonville's Ballot Drop
As Election Day draws near, a reminder that the City of Wilsonville’s only ballot drop site is located at City Hall (29799 SW Town Center Loop E.)
The drive-thru ballot drop, accessible via Courtside Drive, is accessible to the public 24 hours a day from Oct. 14 (the day ballots are mailed) until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Additional ballot drop boxes are located throughout Washington County (view list) and Clackamas County (view list). Ballots may also be dropped in the mail; the U.S. Postal Service recommends “that domestic, non-military voters mail their completed ballots before Election Day and at least one week prior to your state’s deadline.”

The City Council is scheduled to discuss the draft strategy during the Monday, Oct. 19, work session that starts at 5 pm.

September 24, 2020 — At the September 21, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council approved contracts to fund and execute the first phase of the City’s planned conversion to LED street lights. About 950 lights are being converted before the end of the calendar year to make City lighting safer and more energy efficient.
At a public hearing, on first reading, Council adopted two resolutions that annex and rezone approximately 17.5 acres on the west side of SW Stafford Road south of SW Frog Pond Lane within the Frog Pond West Master Plan area, enabling development of the 71-lot, single-family Frog Pond Ridge subdivision.

September 16, 2020 – Because of the continued public health risks associated with exposure to unhealthy air quality conditions, all City facilities are remaining closed on Thursday, Sept. 17 and Friday, Sept. 18.
The Library, City Hall and the Parks & Rec. Admin. Building are closed on Thursday and Friday; the Library would re-open on Saturday if air quality significantly improves and no longer poses a health risk.

September 15, 2020 – Because of the continued public health risks associated with exposure to unhealthy air quality conditions, all City facilities are to remain closed on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and until air quality levels significantly improve.
The Library, City Hall and the Parks & Rec. Admin. Building are closed on Wednesday. Additionally, all recreation camps offered through Parks and Recreation are canceled for the remainder of the week.

September 14, 2020 — At the September 10, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council approved a State of Emergency declaration in order to obtain additional latitude to mitigate the effects of regional wildfires in the interest of public safety. The declaration expires Oct. 15.
Additionally, the Council extended a previous State of Emergency declaration, adopted in March to aide ongoing response to COVID-19. The declaration has been extended through Nov. 3.

September 13, 2020 - In order to discourage unnecessary travel, and to prevent exposing residents and City employees to additional health risks until air quality improves, all city facilities are closed on Monday, Sept. 14. SMART Transit is operating all routes, on schedule.
The Library is closed as scheduled on Monday and scheduled to re-open to the public on Tuesday, Sept. 15 (subject to change).
Currently there is no eminent evacuation threat to Wilsonville, though it is recommended that people continue to rely on City social media feeds and trusted news organizations to remain up to date. On Sunday, the Clackamas County Evacuation Map was updated, removing Wilsonville from the Level 1 evacuation order.

September 3, 2020 — The City’s popular Bulky Waste Day returns on Saturday, Oct. 10, 9 am-1 pm, at Republic Services (10295 SW Ridder Rd.) in Wilsonville. The event is provided in partnership with Metro and Republic Services, the City’s franchised recycling and waste hauler.
Bulky Waste Day provides an opportunity for Wilsonville residents to dispose of large or unusual items that cannot be picked up curbside. Proof of residence is required when waste is dropped.

September 1, 2020 — Wilsonville cares about its trees. Trees contribute to our sense of place and quality of life, they clean the air, conserve the soil and water, reduce heating and cooling costs and bring nature close to home. Each year since 1997, the City has been awarded recognition as a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation.
To ensure a healthy future for Wilsonville’s trees, the City is developing an Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) in collaboration with PlanIT Geo’s urban forestry consultants. The plan establishes a road map to support the long-term health of the urban forest with an integrated approach to preserving, sustaining, diversifying, and regenerating Wilsonville’s urban forest for many more generations to enjoy.

August 26, 2020 – To meet an emergent community need, the City is working in partnership with Shred-it to collect and shred sensitive paper documents for Wilsonville residents on Saturday, Sept. 26, 9 am to 2 pm, in the City Hall parking lot.
Throughout the summer, the City has received phone calls from residents seeking to shred sensitive documents; the COVID-19 pandemic prevented Wilsonville middle school students from teaming up with Academy Mortgage to host an annual spring shredding event.
This one-time City event is intended to bridge the gap until that popular community event returns.
Shred-It has “contactless” protocols in place to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19. Residents drive up and unload their paper documents into large recycling bins; when a bin is full, it is rolled to one of two Shred-it trucks and contents are immediately shredded.

August 24, 2020 – Wilsonville Parks and Recreation is accepting Community Opportunity Grant applications through Friday, Sept. 25.
Each year, the City distributes up to $25,000 in Community Opportunity Grant awards from its general fund to provide funding for a wide range of local programs and projects in Wilsonville. Successful proposals support education, diversity, arts, entertainment and community-building programs.
Complete grant guidelines and the online application are available at WilsonvilleParksandRec.com/GrantPrograms.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board reviews all applications and typically allocates awards twice annually. This fall’s application review date is not yet scheduled.

Final Task Force Meeting to Be Held on Aug. 25
August 21, 2020 — The Draft Findings and Recommendations of the Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy are available for public review and comment online until Monday, Aug. 31. Comments are to be considered for potential incorporation into the Draft Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy (ACHS).

August 18, 2020 — At the August 17, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council approved the allocation of nearly $100,000 in funds to support eight local Community Enhancement projects. The City receives Community Enhancement funding from Metro, $1 for every ton of wet waste processed in Wilsonville at Republic Services, providing funds to reinvest in the Wilsonville community.
Council authorized the City Manager to execute a contract of about $204,000 to fund the Phase II construction of the I-5 Undercrossing Trail. The new segment completes the path to connect Memorial Park to Boones Ferry Park.
To aid emergency planning, The Council voted to renew the City’s participation in The Regional Water Providers Consortium (RWPC), which provides leadership in the planning, management, stewardship, and resiliency of drinking water in the metropolitan region.

August 12, 2020 — The City of Wilsonville’s 50-member Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy (ACHS) Task Force is scheduled to meet virtually on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1-2:30 pm. The meeting is open to the public and provides an opportunity for public comment.
The third and last planned meeting of the ACHS Task Force includes a review of the draft findings and recommendations that form the basis of the ACHS. Additionally, the Task Force is to review results of several surveys conducted over the summer, including the Cultural Vision Survey, Cultural Assets Inventory Survey and Municipal Survey of 15 Cities Operating Arts, Culture and Heritage programs and facilities.

August 3, 2020 — A project to design Wilsonville’s future I-5 Pedestrian Bridge and adjacent Gateway Plaza is underway. The City is gathering public input on preliminary bridge and plaza designs to identify concepts and design elements most preferred by the Wilsonville community.
Residents and community stakeholders are invited to participate in a new survey on “Let’s Talk, Wilsonville!” (registration required) that illustrates three preliminary bridge concepts and three east gateway plaza concepts. Until Aug. 24, community members may vote for their preferences and provide additional input on preferred elements – including public art, gathering spaces, and bridge features – for project managers to consider prioritizing in the final design.

July 27, 2020 — The City is beginning its 2020 roadway maintenance project in August. Each year, several streets are upgraded or reconstructed to maintain and develop the City’s infrastructure and optimize traffic flow.
This year’s project includes work on portions of the following roadways: Elligsen Rd., Day Rd., Burns Way, Main St., and Parkway Ave. The project is providing new asphalt or concrete pavement, pedestrian curb ramps, roadway striping and pedestrian signal improvements.
While existing pedestrian curb ramps within the project area are being reconstructed to meet current federal standards, pedestrian access is being maintained during construction. The City is also upgrading pedestrian signals to current federal accessibility standards.
