Wilsonville Civics Academy
"It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership." ~ Nelson Mandela
The City of Wilsonville's public-engagement program takes place December -June with meetings typically held on the second Thursday of the month, 6 - 9pm. There is no charge for the program; class size is limited. Recruitment for the 2025 session of the Wilsonville Civics Academy closed on November 8, 2024 at 5:00pm.
The Civics Academy features City-hosted meetings and events designed to prepare community members for roles on local-government boards and commissions, as well as area non-profits. The Civics Academy offers participants the opportunity to learn about the City’s programs and operations, meet City staff and elected officials and get to know fellow community members.
Have you ever wondered just how your local government works, or what the role of the Mayor and City Manager really is? The Wilsonville Civics Academy answers those questions and more!
The Academy prepares participants for leadership opportunities by:
- Detailing public meetings requirements
- Sharing details about city staff responsibilities and services
- Developing a new network of civic-minded community members
- Facilitating direct engagement between city staff and community members
The program is open to residents of the City of Wilsonville. When space permits, a limited number of spots are made available to local business owners or employees who live outside of Wilsonville and work within City limits. One spot is reserved for a Wilsonville High School student.
