The City of Wilsonville’s Public Works department sweeps City streets monthly to remove debris and lessen the volume of contaminants in the stormwater system.  

Typically, street sweeping takes place on major arterials in the early morning Monday-Friday from 4am-7am, and on other streets throughout the day. Sweeping is done with little disruption, as sweepers go around vehicles in the roadway. Please avoid sweeping leaves or other debris into the street, as the sweepers may not be able to pick up excessive debris.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How often is my street swept?

Public streets in Wilsonville are swept monthly.  Our contractor follows a set monthly schedule as much as possible.  However, we cannot guarantee that your street will be swept that day.  Street sweepers may need to perform special sweeps, such as for a spill response or after a vehicle accident, which can delay their progress.  Make-up days are built into the schedule to ensure that City streets get swept each month.

2. You missed my street!

Street sweepers clean early in the day to minimize disruption to residents.  Our contractor has a set schedule of which streets will be cleaned on a given day.  Occasionally, they are delayed, especially in the fall months, but there are make-up days built into the schedule.  Please keep in mind that the contractor may need additional days to complete their routes by the end of the month.

Private streets are not on the City’s street sweeping routes.  For road maintenance concerns, please contact your home owners association (HOA).

3. How often are bike lanes swept?

Bike lanes on Wilsonville Road and Boeckman Road are swept twice monthly.  All other lanes are swept monthly.  Please refer to the map to see the bike lane sweep schedule.

4. Will the City enforce parking restrictions on sweep days?

No.  Sweepers are instructed to go around any parked vehicles.  If you are part of an HOA, encourage them to communicate the street cleaning day and direct residents to park off of the street.

5. I live in Charbonneau. I see the street sweeper go by and it doesn’t sweep my street – why?

The Charbonneau community has so many road miles the street sweepers need multiple days to complete the area.  Sweeping is divided into three scheduled days – the third Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of every month.   French Prairie Road is cleaned on a different day than the smaller streets, so it may appear that they have ‘missed’ your street.

6. I live in Villebois. Why is my neighbor’s street swept on a different day?

The Villebois community has so many road miles that the street sweepers need multiple days to complete the area.  Sweeping is divided into three scheduled days – the first Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the month.

7. The sweeper goes around the leaves in the roadway – why?

The street sweepers are not designed to pick up large quantities of debris, even leaves or grass clippings.  Leaf piles will be avoided altogether.  Branches or shrub trimmings mixed in the piles damage the equipment, causing costly repairs and delays the driver’s schedule.

By City Code, it is the adjacent property owner’s responsibility to maintain the sidewalk and keep half of the street clear from debris.  Leaves and landscaping debris are not to be deposited into the street.  Place all yard debris in your yard waste bin.  Visit Republic Services' Yard Waste webpage for more information about yard waste disposal and ordering additional bins.  The City hosts an annual Leaf Drop-Off Day in the fall as a service to Wilsonville residents.  Details about any upcoming events are published in the Boones Ferry Messenger and on the City's home page.

8. There are piles of wet leaves on my street – who is responsible for cleaning those up?

Soggy leaf piles can be a nuisance.  By City Code, it is the adjacent property owner’s responsibility to maintain the sidewalk and keep half of the street clear from debris.  Most leaf piles accumulate under parked cars and shoulders, not in the center of the roadway.  Our Roads Maintenance department is obligated to maintain access on public streets but they are not responsible for cleaning from curb to curb or ensuring that sidewalks are clear.

If City Staff notice a hazard to vehicle or pedestrian traffic, they may place an informational door hanger on the resident’s door or contact the appropriate HOA.  Multiple offenses may result in a fine.  To report a nuisance or hazard, contact the City’s Code Compliance Coordinator, David Valenzuela, at (503) 570-1603 or dvalenzuela@ci.wilsonville.or.us
