Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that was enacted on July 26, 1990.  The ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion.  It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications.

Title II of the ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in all services, programs, and activities provided to the public by local and state governments.  The City of Wilsonville works to ensure equal access and full participation of people with disabilities in every City operated or funded service, program, activity and facility.  Where barriers to accessibility occur, the City of Wilsonville has developed barrier removal solutions that will facilitate the opportunity of access to all individuals.

The City of Wilsonville has designated an ADA Coordinator, who is responsible for making sure that all individuals have access to City facilities and are able to participate in City services, programs and activities in compliance with Title II of the ADA. The ADA Coordinator is available to answer questions from both the public and City employees about accommodating persons with disabilities and Title II of the ADA.

ADA Grievance Procedure

This Grievance Procedure is established to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).  It may be used by anyone who wishes to file a complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of services, activities, programs, or benefits by the City of Wilsonville.  To file an ADA complaint, use the City of Wilsonville ADA Grievance Form.

ADA Self-Evaluation

The Wilsonville ADA Self-Evaluation document is available upon request by contacting the Wilsonville ADA Coordinator.

Title II of the ADA requires state and local governments to conduct a self-evaluation of services, programs, policies, and activities to identify those that discriminate against or prevent participation of persons with disabilities.  The City of Wilsonville completed an ADA Self-Evaluation in 2001.

ADA Transition Plan – Public Right-of-Way and Parks Facilities

Title II of the ADA requires state and local governments to develop a transition plan that provides for the removal of physical barriers that limit individuals with disabilities access to government services, programs, and activities.  The City of Wilsonville completed an ADA Transition Plan for City parks facilities and public sidewalk ramps, pedestrian signals, and transit stops in 2015.

Request ADA Accommodation
