Displacing Black Portland: A History of Housing Discrimination
People of African descent have called Portland home since the earliest days of non-Native settlement. However, policies of systemic racism have led to waves of displacement and demolition within the city's historically Black neighborhoods. The ripple effects of generations of housing discrimination continue to shape Portland's demographics, and Black Portlanders' opportunities within a rapidly gentrifying city.
* The DEI Lecture Series was funded by a Parks & Recreation Department Opportunity Grant.
