Wilsonville Tourism Committee Awards $20,000 in County Community Tourism Grants

On April 25, 2017, the City of Wilsonville Tourism Promotion Committee awarded $20,000 in Clackamas County Tourism “Community Partnership Program” grants to fund three local projects. The funded proposals include:

World of Speed Motorsports Museum: American Muscle Cars Exhibit out-of-area marketing campaign targeted to visitors from Southern Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Northern California, and British Columbia — $10,000
Willamette United Football Club: Mt. Hood Challenge Soccer Tournament social media marketing campaign promoting local businesses and attractions to 7,000 to 10,000 players and their families attending from Western states, including Washington, California, Idaho, Montana — $8,000
Farmlandia Farm Loop: Production of durable farm-locator roadside signage as part of the Oregon Farm Loop marketing campaign — $2,000

Tourism Promotion Committee Chair Jeff Brown said, “The projects funded this year provide real benefit to the larger community, visitors, and area tourism and hospitality operators by promoting local, existing resources, attractions and businesses. Project advocates brought strong proposals that demonstrate a keen awareness of how to leverage public funds for a greater public benefit.”

The purpose of the County grant program is to increase the numbers of tourist visitors and increase the economic impact of tourism in Wilsonville and in Clackamas County. Other objectives of the program include: increasing overnight lodging stays in Clackamas County; bringing visitors into communities from greater than 50 miles away to shop, dine, recreate, attend arts or cultural offerings, or visit heritage sites; and enticing visitors to “linger longer.”

Funding for the Clackamas County Tourism-Community Partnership Program (CPP) grants comes from Clackamas County’s 6% transient lodging tax paid by overnight lodging visitors.

The City-administered County tourism grant program is separate and distinct from the City’s Community Tourism program, which is also awarded by the City’s Tourism Promotion Committee as well, but under a separate process.
