August 21, 2018 — On August 20, the Wilsonville City Council reaffirmed a 30-year “sister city” relationship with Kitakata, Japan, in front of a 12-person delegation visiting from the Japanese city led by Mayor Chuuichi Endo. Elected officials from Wilsonville and Kitakata planted a friendship tree at City Hall, exchanged gifts and expressed gratitude for the ongoing cultural exchange program, locally managed by the Wilsonville Sister City Assn.

Afterward, Council adopted a resolution in support of two ballot measures appearing on the November 2018 election: a Metro affordable-housing bond measure and a state constitutional amendment that allows government to partner with the private-sector to develop housing.s on the November ballot designed to support affordable housing for as many as 7,500 people -- including families, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities -- in the Portland area. The measures, which help to drive rental rates down, include dedicated funding for affordable housing in Clackamas County.

Council continued until September 6 a public hearing to revise Chapter 8 of the City Code regarding the enforcement of stormwater regulations and other housekeeping items. The continuance allows Council members more time to review updates and re-organization of code language.

Council also continued until November 5 a public hearing to consider adoption of the Boones Ferry Park Master Plan. The continuance allows City Park and Recreation staff more time to flesh-out additional details of the plan, which is guiding future development of the existing park and other City-owned parcels near the bank of the Willamette River.

Council approved a contract with Kittelson & Associates, Inc. for 2018 street maintenance work on Wilsonville and Boones Ferry Roads.

At the work session prior to the meeting, City staff provided an update on the development on a community-driven concept plan to guide future development at Wilsonville Town Center. The long-range plan advocates for better multi-modal transportation options, public gathering places and a Main Street with mixed-use residential and retail buildings.
