City Hosts Neighborhood Presentation on Pipeline Safety

June 13, 2019 — The City of Wilsonville is hosting a neighborhood presentation by Kinder Morgan on Thursday, June 27, 6-7 pm.  Pipeline operator Kinder Morgan, one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, is presenting on the topic of pipeline safety and improvements at Wilsonville City Hall, 29799 SW Town Center Loop East.

Kinder Morgan representatives plan to present information about the company’s operations, pipeline safety procedures and additional steps being taken to safeguard the community. Kinder Morgan is taking several measures to improve local-area safety operations, including voluntarily installing an automatic pipeline shut-off valve in Wilsonville. Additionally, the company is engaging in an emergency-response drill June 25-26 in Wilsonville in collaboration with the City, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and other local-area emergency responders.

The City of Wilsonville has been working with Kinder Morgan and other parties since 2017 on issues focused on public safety and environmental protection. Kinder Morgan operates a 114-mile-long petroleum products pipeline from Portland to Eugene that provides gasoline, diesel and jet fuel supply to Oregon, including the Wilsonville area. The pipeline passes under the Willamette River through the Wilsonville area.

The cities of Wilsonville and Sherwood currently receive treated drinking water from the Willamette River, and Hillsboro and Tualatin Valley Water District are also tapping the Willamette River starting in 2026 as a long-term water supply for Western Washington County.
