City Council Report for May 15, 2017
At the May 15, 2017, Wilsonville City Council meeting, the Council adopted the project funding recommendations made by the Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Committee to advance seven projects that total just over $100,000, including: Art and Culture Survey and Strategic Plan ($26,100); Beauty and the Bridge Interpretive Signs ($20,000); Graham Oaks Nature Park Pedestrian Crossing Safety Enhancement ($20,000); Electronic Reader Board and Wilsonville Public Library Sign ($15,000); Beauty and the Bridge Lighting Feasibility Study ($10,000); Community Health Fair ($5,000); and Clackamas Community College Permanent Public Art Installation ($4,000). The approved projects are expected to begin on or after July 1 and to be completed within a two-year time frame. Funded by a fee on biodegradable solid-waste transferred at the facilities of Republic Services in Wilsonville, the new Community Enhancement Program can underwrite a wide range of projects and programs that benefit the community. In December 2017 the City will begin accepting new online project nominations to be considered for the 18-19 program funding.
Under Mayor’s Business, the Mayor proclaimed the week of May 21–27 as Public Works Week to acknowledge the contributions of the City’s Public Works staff and investments. The City’s Public Works Department is comprised of 20 individuals who are responsible for maintaining city facilities, city-owned streets, landscaping, street trees, the water distribution system, the stormwater and sanitary sewer systems, along with management and oversight of the water and also the waste water treatment plants.
Under Communications, the City Council received an update on the five projects that previously received funding from the 2016-17 Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Program. Finally, Police Chief Adam Phillips provided the City Council an annual report regarding the efforts and outcomes of the Wilsonville Police department for calendar year 2016–a copy of the report is available at www.ci.wilsonville.or.us/police.
During work session prior to the meeting, the City Council and the Planning Commission held a joint meeting regarding the Wilsonville Town Center Plan to review and provide input on overall vision, goals and for the 18-month long-range planning project.
