City Council Approves Wastewater Project, Welcomes State Soccer Champs
February 4, 2025 — At the February 3, 2025, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved a $652,000 contract with Brown & Caldwell to fund a project to replace the backup Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). Replacing this failed backup system ensures redundancy and reliability for the disinfection of treated wastewater effluent to protect public health and the environment.
Additionally, the Council approved the amendment of a contract with Flow Line Construction LLC, which adds $43,000 to accommodate the construction of an ADA-accessible route along The Park at Merryfield Trail and improved ADA access to the playground area.
During Mayor’s Business, the Council welcomed the Wilsonville High School girls soccer team in celebration of the Wildcats’ fourth consecutive OSAA 5A State Championship in November. This Wildcats team became just the fifth soccer team in State history to win four straight championships. By proclamation, the Council declared Feb. 3-9 to be “Wilsonville Wildcats Week.”
Mayor Shawn O’Neil re-affirmed the City’s commitment to a 2017 resolution declaring Wilsonville a welcoming and inclusive city.
“Our community is a vibrant tapestry of diverse backgrounds, including citizens and non-citizens. Many of our residents and workers are new to our community bringing with them new perspectives and enriching our shared experience,” O’Neil said. “We are committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, feels safe and welcomed here.”
At the work session prior to the meeting, Planning staff presented details of a State mandate to reform and standardize parking requirements as outlined in the Climate Friendly and Equitable Communities (CFEC), a 2022 executive order from the Governor’s office to reduce climate pollution. The State’s findings indicate that minimum parking requirements over-produce parking, leading to inefficient land use, less walkability, and more pollution from cars. Staff sought the Council’s guidance to ensure that reforms are tailored to Wilsonville’s needs to leverage positive outcomes in compliance with State law.
Natural Resources staff sought guidance to inform ongoing work to draft a Climate Action Plan, which is to guide the City’s actions to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change. The Plan is scheduled to be compete this spring.
Because of the Presidents Day holiday, the next meeting of the City Council takes place on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 pm. A 5 pm work session is scheduled to precede the meeting. Both are open to the public.
