City Council Approves Time Extension for Water Pipeline Project, Makes DEI Committee Permanent

September 17, 2024 — At the September 16, 2024, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council adopted an amendment to the 2019 intergovernmental agreement with Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD) and the Willamette Water Supply System Commission. A revised project timeline for the Raw Water Facilities Project, part of a 26-mile-long water pipeline from Wilsonville to serve Hillsboro, Beaverton and TVWD customers, is requiring a six-month extension of the project’s completion date to June 30, 2025.

Following a public hearing previously held on Sept. 5, the Council approved, on second reading, codifying the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee as a standing committee in Wilsonville Code, thereby strengthening the City’s commitment to work advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging.

During Mayor’s Business, the City Council adopted a set of priorities for specific public policy issues to advocate for during the 2025 session of the Oregon state legislature. The Council also approved the “Joint Values and Outcomes for the 2025 State Legislative Transportation Package by the Communities of Clackamas County” previously adopted in August by the multi-jurisdictional Clackamas County Coordinating Committee (C4).

During Communications, waste and recycling hauler Republic Services provided an annual report of activities, customer events and ongoing improvements. The company noted improved efficiency, updated safety protocols, and quick customer service response to the concerns of residential customers.

At a work session held prior to the meeting, staff sought the Council’s feedback to inform the League of Oregon Cities’ policy priorities in advance of the 2025 State legislative session.

The next scheduled meeting of the City Council takes place on Monday, Oct. 7, at 7 pm; a pre-meeting work session is scheduled at 5 pm.
