City Council Adopts Bridge, Plaza Concepts for I-5 Pedestrian Bridge Project, Approves CNG-Fueled Trolley

October 6, 2020  — At the October 5, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council adopted a resolution to select a preferred bridge concept, plaza type and priority elements to be included in the preliminary design of the I-5 Pedestrian Bridge and Gateway Plaza.

The Council’s action affirms the recommendations of the City’s Planning Commission, which was informed by input from three community open houses and a public survey of nearly 300 community stakeholders. The decision enables project managers to begin preliminary work on a preferred design that features an iconic “tied arch” bridge.

The Council also approved South Metro Area Regional Transit’s purchase of a new community trolley. The compressed natural gas (CNG)-fueled vehicle, designed for year-round use including appearances at City events, is funded primarily through an Oregon Department of Transportation grant.

At a public hearing, on second reading, Council adopted two resolutions that annex and rezone approximately 17.5 acres on the west side of SW Stafford Road south of SW Frog Pond Lane within the Frog Pond West Master Plan area, enabling development of the 71-lot, single-family Frog Pond Ridge subdivision consistent with the area’s master plan.

The Council approved a minor modification to the development agreement template for Frog Pond West that removes a restrictive covenant waiving right of remonstrance in order to provide more clarity and certainty for prospective home buyers.

Additionally, the Council approved Mayor Tim Knapp’s recommendation that Brian Everest be appointed to the Tourism Promotion Committee to fill a vacant seat for a term that expires June 30, 2021.

The next City Council meeting is scheduled to be held on Monday, Oct. 19, at 7 pm; a pre-meeting work session begins at 5 pm.
