City Completes Public Roadway Clean-Up; Crews Work to Open Parks, Shred Debris
February 25, 2021 — Earlier this week, the City of Wilsonville’s Public Works and Park Maintenance Staff completed the work of trimming hazardous limbs and removing tree debris from all 86.2 lane miles of the city’s major arterial roadways.
Since the Feb. 13 onset of the severe winter storm that felled or damaged thousands of Wilsonville trees, the City has operated in accordance with its Debris Management Plan, which calls for the immediate clean-up of public hazards along major arterials and collectors. The crews are now focusing their attention on completing debris clean-up at parks, trails, green spaces and other public properties.
Palermo Park and Sofia Park in Villebois are now among those City parks open to the public; the list also includes Town Center Park, Canyon Creek Park, Engelman Park, River Fox Park, Town Center Park. Among those parks that remain closed, Memorial Park is likely to be the last park re-opened because of a high volume of trees that may present hazards.
City crews are not scheduled to collect additional debris from residential streets and private roadways. The City is relying on homeowners, HOAs, property managers and business owners to complete debris removal on residential streets and private property within a reasonable time frame to remove remaining hazards to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
The City’s debris drop-off site at the Wilsonville Transit Center (9699 SW Barber St.) wrapping up collection services at 5 pm this evening. The site has collected and is shredding more than 24,000 cubic yards of debris, for which the City is now making disposal arrangements. Public Works estimates the debris volume at the site to be equivalent to the size of a football field stakced with 13.5 feet of mulch.
Republic Services is accepting smaller limbs (less than 6" in diameter) and debris, which can be broken down and included in yard debris bins. For those with larger debris piles to remove, a list of available area drop sites is available from our county partners:
As the City begins to assess the loss to its treescape, it is asking residents who remove trees to submit an Emergency Tree Removal Form. This step helps the City identify how to approach the damage, allows our inspectors to visit your property to observe site conditions if necessary, and provides the City a way to contact you about tree replacement.
Tree removal fees are waived for emergency removals. Residents replanting trees immediately should first consult the City’s recommended tree list.
