The City of Wilsonville has openings that become available at the start of 2018 on various boards and commissions, including the Budget Committee, Planning Commission, Tourism Promotion Committee and the Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Committee. Volunteers who serve on the City’s committees make a valuable contribution towards improving the community and local government’s ability to serve residents, businesses and visitors. The deadline to submit an application for consideration of appointment is Thursday, Nov. 30, 4:30 pm.The Budget Committee consists of all five City Council members and five residents at large. Members of the Budget Committee are appointed by the Council and serve three-year terms. The committee meets as necessary during the year and at a minimum must meet each spring to review the budget proposed by the City Manager for recommendation to Council.The Planning Commission is a seven-member panel responsible for making recommendations to the City Council on all legislative land-use and planning matters. The Commission reviews plans for development in Wilsonville and acts to promote public health, safety and the welfare of residents and businesses. The commission also fulfills the role as the City’s Committee for Citizen Involvement (CCI) that conducts work sessions and informal public meetings intended to encourage an exchange of ideas and opinions without the formality of public hearings.The Tourism Promotion Committee has two openings for voting members, one with a term ending June 30, 2018, and the other ending June 30, 2019; members are to have a direct connection with the hospitality and tourism industry and need not work nor live in Wilsonville. The Committee is charged to implement the Wilsonville Tourism Development Strategy and oversee City-County tourism-development grant programs. The 12-member committee is composed of seven voting members who represent the greater Wilsonville-area hospitality and tourism industry and five non-voting members to provide advice and consultation to the committee.The Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Committee has three openings, one for a term expiring on June 30, 2018, and two positions for three-year-long terms that expire on June 30, 2020. The seven-member committee, which includes two City Council members and Metro Council member, is responsible for reviewing in the March–April timeframe Community Enhancement Program project submissions and making funding recommendations to City Council. The Community Enhancement Program is funded by a per-ton charge on biodegradable solid-waste delivered to the Wilsonville Republic Services waste-transfer station.
